Start with an itemized dealer quote for a specific coin or bar and quantity. Then request account establishment, administration, storage, transaction, and distribution charges from the responsible providers. Ask whether each charge is fixed, based on account value, or triggered by an event.
Create two columns for each proposal: first year and later years. This prevents a temporary opening promotion from hiding ongoing costs. Keep the product premium separate from annual account charges so the same cost is not counted twice.
Suppose an itemized purchase would cost $10,000 and a same-day resale bid for those identical products is $9,200. The immediate difference is $800, or 8% of the purchase amount, before any other charges. Recovering $10,000 from that $9,200 bid would require about an 8.7% increase in the bid, assuming other factors stayed unchanged. These are invented round numbers for arithmetic only, not actual quotes or a price forecast.
Confirm the facility, service type, products accepted, billing method, and withdrawal procedure through the chosen custodian. Segregated storage and non-segregated storage describe different handling arrangements. Compare the specific terms quoted for your account instead of assuming the same fee applies to every metal and service.
Request a current bid and the steps to sell some or all of the holdings. Ask how price is locked, who gives instructions, and when proceeds become cash in the IRA. A provider’s willingness to consider a future repurchase does not establish a guaranteed resale value.
